How to Make a Clash-Free School Timetable in Minutes (With a Daily Nazra Quran Slot)
Ask any principal or senior teacher about the hardest week of the year and many will say: the week the timetable is made. Twelve classes, twenty teachers, short Fridays, a Nazra Quran period every morning and one Maths teacher who is somehow needed in three classes at once. One change and the whole chart on the staffroom wall has to be redrawn.
The free School Timetable Generator does the puzzle for you. You tell it your days, timings, classes, subjects and teachers, and it builds complete timetables where no teacher is ever in two classes at the same time. Here is how to use it, step by step, plus the habits that keep a timetable working all year.
What the generator does
- Fits every subject's weekly periods for every class, spreading a subject across the week instead of piling it on one day.
- Puts core subjects early in the day, when students are fresh.
- Checks teacher clashes across the whole school and highlights any clash in red (for example after you edit a period by hand).
- Gives three views: class-wise timetables, a master timetable for each day showing every class, and teacher-wise timetables for each teacher.
- Handles summer and winter timings, a daily Nazra Quran slot and shorter Fridays.
- Prints on A3 in your school's colours with your logo, which is big enough for a notice board.
Step-by-step: building the timetable
1. School details
Enter the school name, campus, session and (optionally) the principal's name, upload the logo and pick a theme colour.
2. Days and timings
Select the working days and set the periods per day, the number of periods on Friday (many Pakistani schools close early on Friday), the start time, period length, when the break comes and how long it lasts, plus the assembly length. A class can also have its own period length if, for example, the juniors have shorter periods.
3. Summer and winter timings
Most Pakistani schools change their clock twice a year. Choose the timing mode: Standard (one set of timings), Summer or Winter (the timetable is labelled with that season), or Both. With Both, you set a separate winter clock (start time, period length, break, assembly and Quran slot) while the periods and subjects stay exactly the same all year. Handy shortcuts let you copy the summer timings to winter or start winter 30 minutes later, and a class with its own period length can have a winter length too. Teachers are kept clash-free in both seasons, you can switch the on-screen view between summer and winter times, and the printed timetable shows both times stacked under every period, so one chart on the wall works all year.
4. The daily Nazra Quran slot
Tick Nazra Quran right after assembly to give every class a daily Quran slot with its own length (for example 20 minutes; summer and winter can differ) and a name of your choice. Each class's Quran teacher is taken from its "Nazra Quran" subject row. Because the slot is the same time for every class, one Quran teacher for several classes would show as a clash in red, which helps you plan how many Quran teachers you really need.
5. Classes, subjects and teachers
Choose Single class or Whole school. Add classes and use the ready-made subject lists for primary, middle, high and college, then adjust subjects, periods per week and teacher names. In whole-school mode, type a teacher's name exactly the same way in every class they teach; that is how the generator knows it is the same person.
6. Generate, adjust, download
Click Generate. If some periods can't fit (for example more periods per week than the timetable has slots), a note tells you exactly which ones. Tap any period to change it by hand, then download the A3 PDF with class-wise pages, master pages and teacher-wise pages. Untick any of the three you don't need.
Free vs Premium
The full generator and the A3 PDF are free; the free PDF includes the website watermark. Premium members get an editable Word file (A3) and watermark-free PDFs.
Tips from experienced timetable makers
- Count before you generate. Weekly periods per class must not exceed the slots available, and the tool shows the slot count under the timings.
- Collect teacher loads first. Ask each teacher which classes and subjects they take, and write names consistently ("Sir Imran", not "Imran" in one class and "Imran Sb" in another).
- Use "Empty periods show" to label free periods as Library or Self Study instead of leaving blanks.
- Print teacher-wise copies and hand each teacher their own page. It saves dozens of "which class do I have now?" questions in the first week.
Mistakes to avoid
- Different spellings for one teacher, which hides real clashes.
- Too many periods per week for a class: the tool will warn you, so reduce a subject or add a period.
- Editing by hand without checking red cells. Manual edits can create clashes; the red highlight shows you where.
- Printing at "fit to page" on A4. The layout is designed for A3, and shrinking it makes the text small.

Frequently asked questions
Can it make a timetable for the whole school?
Yes. Switch to Whole school, add all classes with their subjects and teachers, and it builds class-wise, master (per day) and teacher-wise timetables with no teacher clashes.
Can I set fewer periods on Friday?
Yes. There is a separate 'Periods on Friday' setting, and Friday columns use it automatically.
How does the Nazra Quran slot work?
Turn it on and every class gets a daily Quran slot right after assembly with its own length and label. The Quran teacher for each class comes from that class's Nazra Quran subject row.
Can it make summer and winter timings?
Yes. Choose Summer, Winter or Both. With Both you set a separate winter clock (start time, period length, break, assembly and Quran slot) while the periods and subjects stay the same, teachers stay clash-free in both seasons, and the printout shows summer and winter times together.
Is the Word file free?
The PDF (A3) is free with the website watermark. The editable Word file and watermark-free PDF are Premium.
