Result Day Without the Late Nights: Report Cards, Position Lists and Certificates for the Whole Class
Result day is a happy day for students and a stressful week for teachers. Marks have to be totalled, percentages worked out, grades given, positions decided, remarks written, and then every report card filled by hand or typed one by one. After that come the certificates for position holders, best students and sports winners, usually on the same night.
Two free tools on DigitalSpot cut that week down to an evening. The Result / Report Card Generator turns a list of marks into report cards and a class result sheet, and the Certificate Generator prints elegant certificates for a whole list of students at once. Here's the complete result-day workflow.
Part 1: Report cards and the result sheet
What it calculates
- Totals and percentages for every student.
- Grades from A1 (80% and above, "Outstanding") through A, B, C, D and E down to F, each with a remark.
- Pass / fail per subject; a student who fails a subject is marked accordingly.
- Class positions, then a colourful report card for every student and a complete class result sheet.
Step-by-step
- Enter the school, exam and class details and upload your logo.
- Add the subjects with their total marks.
- Type the marks, or copy them straight from Excel or Google Sheets in the column order shown on screen. Type A for an absent student.
- Check the calculated results on screen, then download all report cards and the result sheet as one PDF.
Part 2: Certificates for everyone who earned one
Certificate types and designs
Choose from 8 types: Appreciation, Merit (position holders), Achievement, Excellence, Participation, Sports, Best Student and Hifz-e-Quran. Pick one of six colour themes (Royal Navy & Gold, Emerald & Gold, Crimson & Gold, Royal Purple, Sky Blue, or the playful Kids Rainbow) and add your logo and two signatures (for example Principal and Class Teacher).
Step-by-step
- Pick the certificate type and colour theme.
- Edit the title, event, date and message. Use
{name},{class}and{position}and they're filled in for every student. - Paste the names as
Name | Class | Position(class and position are optional), straight from Excel if you like. - Check the live preview of the first certificate, then download all certificates as one A4-landscape PDF.
A simple result-day timeline
- A week before: collect marks from every subject teacher in one shared Excel sheet with the same student order.
- Three days before: paste the marks into the report card tool, check absent students and failed subjects, and share the class result sheet with the principal.
- Two days before: print the report cards and get them signed. Paste the position holders and award winners into the certificate tool and print the certificates.
- Result day: hand out report cards and certificates, with no last-minute typing.
Because the marks and names stay saved on your device, fixing a single wrong mark later only takes a minute: correct it and download again.
Free vs Premium
Both tools are free with PDF downloads that include the website watermark. Premium members get Word files and watermark-free PDFs, which is nice if you print certificates on premium card.
Tips for a smooth result day
- Keep one master Excel sheet per class with names in the same order. Paste the marks into the report card tool and the position holders into the certificate tool.
- Double-check totals per subject before entering marks; a wrong total changes every percentage.
- Print a test page first. Check colours and margins on your printer before printing 40 cards.
- Print certificates on thicker paper. 120–160 gsm makes them feel special.
- Give participation certificates generously at events; they matter a lot to younger students.
Mistakes to avoid
- Columns pasted in the wrong order, which puts Maths marks under English. Match the order shown on screen.
- Leaving absent students blank. Use "A" so the absence is recorded correctly.
- Spelling mistakes in names. A certificate with a misspelt name gets thrown away; copy names from your admission records.
- Forgetting to proofread the message. Check the event name and date on the preview before downloading.

Frequently asked questions
Are the report card and certificate tools free?
Yes. Both make PDFs for free, with the website watermark. Premium adds Word download and watermark-free PDFs.
Can I paste marks from Excel?
Yes. Copy the rows from Excel or Google Sheets in the column order shown in the tool and paste them in. Use 'A' for absent.
How are grades decided?
By percentage: A1 for 80% and above, then A, B, C, D, E and F, each with a printed remark.
Does it calculate positions?
Yes. Class positions are calculated automatically and shown on report cards and the result sheet.
Which certificates can I make?
Appreciation, Merit, Achievement, Excellence, Participation, Sports, Best Student and Hifz-e-Quran, in six colour themes.
Do I have to type every student's name again for the certificates?
No. Copy the names (and class and position, if you want them printed) from the same Excel sheet you used for marks and paste them as Name | Class | Position. The message placeholders {name}, {class} and {position} are filled in for every student, and one certificate per student is created in a single PDF.
